4 Places to Get Your Cupcake On Near Fort Benning
When it comes to desserts and sweets, I'm a cupcake girl. Red velvet, vanilla, peanut-butter, jalapeno sunrise...I don't care what flavor it is. I'm an equal opportunity cupcake eater. BUT, I do recognize a good cupcake when I see one...smell one...destroy one. This is what separates me from the beasts. There are plenty of great cupcake shops near Fort Benning, and since my New Year's resolution is to play well (better) with others I've decided to share my cupcake knowledge with you. Some of these places have storefronts, but others are home businesses that will even deliver! Trust me, I once organized a Target parking lot cupcake drop with one place just to get my delicious dessert fix. I don't have a cupcake problem...I have a cupcake solution.
I found Sweet Treats by asking for recommendations on the Fort Benning Spouses Facebook page. I was throwing a surprise birthday party for my husband and opted for a tower of cupcakes instead of the traditional cake. Rachel, the owner and head pastry chef at Sweet Treats, not only makes a mean cupcake, but she was incredibly sweet and helpful in processing my request. Located just across the river in Phenix City, she runs her business out of her home and met up with me in a convenient location in Columbus to deliver the goods.
Right and Up Tip: Though I will eat a vanilla cupcake, it is certainly never my first choice...it's actually my last choice. But the vanilla cupcakes by Sweet Treats were so good that I didn't even mind that everyone else devoured the red velvet before I could try one. So, be sure to give these a try!
This Southern franchise cupcakery has a Columbus, GA location near the airport and is probably the most popular in the area. Expect to find a wide variety of flavors both unique and old-fashioned. Gigi's is perfect for those of us who love frosting, as they pile it sky high on these tasty bad boys. Lastly, they are one of the only places to offer a gluten-free cupcake for those of you with dietary restrictions.
Right and Up Tip: 10% discount for military!
Leilani Rose Cupcakes is a home business based out of Fort Mitchell that sets up a vendor booth on Fort Benning about twice per month. You can typically find these delicious bundles of joy in Patton Village or the Custer Village Pop Up Shoppe. The other great thing about Leilani Rose Cupcakes is that it's a military-spouse owned business!
Right and Up Tip: I don't know what to recommend here because these cupcakes are all seriously good. If I had to choose, I'd go with anything chocolate.
Believe it or not, Publix is actually a great place to get cupcakes and you can usually find one near your neighborhood. This makes getting your cupcake on suuuuper convenient. Their desserts are made fresh daily and are a great bang for their buck! If you're trying to go easy on the wallet, Publix's cupcakes will not disappoint!
